1. What is AlarmsOne?

 

AlarmsOne is an all-in-one alert management tool for all your IT management applications. Being a SaaS-based app, with AlarmsOne you can keep track of your IT incidents even when you are on the go.

3. What is an Alarm poller? How to install the poller?

 

To export alerts from on-premises tools, you need to download the OnPremise poller(Agent) and install it on the server where your monitoring application runs. The poller collects the alerts generated from the monitoring application and sends it to AlarmsOne using a secure communication channel.

 

OnPremise poller is available for both Windows and Linux environment. Following are the steps to install a OnPremisis Poller on the client machine.

 

Windows Installation:

 

  1. Double click on the installable file downloaded and accept the licensing terms and condition.
  2. Proceed to next subsequent steps, you will be prompted for API Key. API key is required to register the poller in AlarmsOne.
  3. You can find the API key for your login, by clicking on Admin Tab in the AlarmsOne UI.
  4. Once API Key is provided and the very next step you need to input the Proxy server credentials for poller to communicate the hosted AlarmsOne.
  5. Once the installation is complete and poller is started, it communicates with AlarmsOne hosted in cloud and get registered with your AlarmsOne.

 

Linux Installation:

 

  1. Download the binary file and execute the binary as follows on the client machine (./AlarmPoller_64bit.bin -console).
  2. Proceed to next subsequent steps, you will be prompted for API Key. API key is required to register the poller in AlarmsOne.
  3. You can find the API key for your login, by clicking on Admin Tab in the AlarmsOne UI.
  4. Once API Key is provided and the very next step you need to input the Proxy server credentials for poller to communicate the hosted AlarmsOne.
  5. Once the installation is complete and poller is started, it communicates with AlarmsOne hosted in cloud and get register with your AlarmsOne.

 


 

4. Where can I get the API key to install a poller?

 

You can get the API key to register the poller by clicking Menu Icon at the top right corner,  Settings  --> Show API Key.


 

5. How the poller collects the alarms?

 

The poller makes an API(Application Programming Interface) call to the monitoring applications and collects the alerts generated.


 

6. Which domain and port i should whitelist in my firewall so that poller can connect to your server?

 

 Port to be opened 443 and allow permission for following domains,

https://plusalarmsone.manageengine.com 
https://dms.zoho.com/


 

7. What are all the monitoring applications supported?

 

AlarmsOne is capable of collecting alerts from a number of applications like Nagios, Solarwinds, ManageEngine OpManager and Application Manager. To view the entire list of applications, click here.


 

8. How do I set up the poller to collects alarms?

 

For on-premises applications like Nagios and Solarwinds, the poller has to be installed on the same server where the application is running. For ManageEngine applications like OpManager or App Manager, you can install the poller on any machine that is reachable from OpManager and Application Manager.


 

9. Can I use the same poller to collect data from all the applications?

 

Yes. You can use the same poller to collect data from all the applications, if the applications run in one server.


 

10. Can AlarmsOne pull alerts from SaaS-based applications?

 

Yes. AlarmsOne uses webhook to pull alerts from SaaS-based apps. For applications which don't have built-in integration, you can use Email integration to integrate that application with AlarmsOne.


 

11. How do I add my applications to AlarmsOne?

 

You can add your applications in AlarmsOne by clicking on  Menu IconApplication -->Add Application. Click here to learn the steps to add different applications.


 

12. Can I see the alerts based on different time zone?

 

During poller installation, you will be prompted for a time zone. You can specify the correct time zone values so that the alerts are created with respective time zone badge. You can view alerts from multiple locations in one place.


 

13. What is the architecture of AlarmsOne?

 

AlarmsOne is a hosted web service. It uses poller(Agent) to collect information from on-premises applications, webhook API and email API to collect data from SaaS-based apps, and custom API to collect alerts from your in-house tools. The poller has to be installed on the Application server and it makes API call to the application to collect generated alerts. The collected alerts are sent to AlarmsOne through secure communication. Using AlarmsOne you can schedule your work shifts to decide your on-call technicians, define notification policies to get notified only for events that matter to you, define escalation policies to notify the right person at the right time, and so on.
